yearning

blue skies scream

below crested death

of a world twisted

machined oil hate

and purple pools

motion flowing out

and crying in fears

of fallen kings

vulture killed

by the airplane

            falling"

This painting, and the poem, were inspired by an experience I had in Costa Rica in 1992.  While staying in the Ranger's Station of Corcovado National Park (the largest tropical rainforest in Central America) I saw, and heard, a king vulture get hit by a small prop airplane.  The huge bird spiraled lifelessly into the howling life of the jungle below... a few minutes later the airplane, badly damaged by the collision, made an emergency landing at the Ranger's Station.
